Strong melodies, complex grooves, aggressive ensemble parts and
abstract sounds are just a few elements of the music heard from
Berlin-based quartett Pinx.
Their
interactive way of playing together reminds of bands from the (free-)
jazz-tradition, but their sound involves contemporary influences
from drum&bass, independent-Rock, noise and free improvisation.
The
groups CDs "Pinx" (2005) and "milieu" (2007)
are out on Farai-Records (distributed by NRW, Sounddesign, Squidco).
Pinx, a quartett offering astonishing authenticity, with trumpet,
saxophone, electric bass and drums (...) stretches from tight organized
structures to free playing to soundscapes. Bert Noglik, Deutschlandfunk/Jazzfacts, 15.04.05
Pinx combine jazz-phrases with elements from drum´n´bass
and Rock, creating an original musical form with them. Alfred Krondraf, concerto, August 2005
A worthy Festival-start was set by the formation Pinx from Berlin.
This was outrageous self-assured music. The compositions were written
by drummer Rudi Fischerlehner. Powerful, succinct tones from trumpet
and saxophone, strong melodies, respectable drive from drums and
electric bass.Wit and great interplay made the first contribution
stand out. le nightflight, Leipzig, April 2005

In the tradition of Ornette Coleman´s revolution in the 60ies,
with a touch of drum&bass. Talented without a doubt, and with
a full sound coming from drums, bass, sax and trumpet. A commendable
try to link free Jazz with the sounds of the new millenium. (haun)
